Opinion: Tottenham eyeing up rival star to fill problem position

|

Tottenham supporters have got a lot of expectations for the upcoming summer transfer window. The Lilywhites needs to have something of an overhaul over the summer months, and it appears that they’re already looking at targets with Jose Mourinho sniffing around targets.

According to The Times, Leicester City are eyeing up Charlie Taylor of Burnley as a potential replacement left-back in the event that Ben Chilwell makes an exit this summer, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham all vying for his signature.

Chilwell would be perfect for Spurs too. The Lilywhites look certain to be parting ways with Danny Rose on a permanent basis this summer, seeing as the experienced defender left for Newcastle on loan in January (BBC) after featuring in just three of the 12 Premier League games Mourinho took charge of before his move to the northeast (Transfermarkt).

Do you want to sign Ben Chilwell?

Yes

No

Aside from Rose, the other options that the Lilywhites have are the more defensive Ben Davies and the incredibly raw Ryan Sessegnon, who could also prove to develop as a winger, so bringing in Chilwell to fight for the role with Davies would be fantastic business, it’s just up to Mourinho to make it happen.

The article states:

‘Leicester City are monitoring Burnley’s Charlie Taylor as they compile a list of prospective left-backs in the event of Ben Chilwell leaving the club in the summer.’

‘The progress of Chilwell, 23, has resulted in interest from Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the England international.’

‘Brendan Rodgers, the Leicester manager, will not want to lose the defender ahead of what is likely to be a return to the Champions League next season, but as he saw with the sale of Harry Maguire to Manchester United last summer, there is a threshold at which the club will sell.’
