Opinion: Tottenham could return for midfielder, may be sold after dispute over tactics

|

According to CalcioNapoli24, Amadou Diawara could leave Napoli after a dispute with Carlo Ancelotti over tactics and due to a lack of playing time this season. The 21-year-old has been linked with a move for Tottenham for some time and could be available for £21m when the campaign comes to a close.

Spurs failed with a £25.5m bid ahead of 2018/19 but were rebuffed by Napoli due them having recently lost Jorginho and manager Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino is on the hunt for a midfielder and may not have to break the bank to sign Diawara anymore.

Napoli are reportedly willing to accept less money. Player and manager aren’t seeing eye-to-eye over where Diawara fits in Ancelotti’s system, and the midfielder making very few appearances this season could see him consider an exit. The Azzurri doesn’t appear to be standing in his way anymore.

After starting his career at FC Sequence and San Marino, the Guinean international made a name for himself at Bologna in 2015 which attracted the attention of Napoli a year later. He’s since gone on to make 73 appearances in all competitions but has an uncertain future at the Stadio San Paolo which Tottenham could exploit. Time will tell.
