Opinion: Tottenham could be set to benefit from huge summer swap

|

Tottenham fans may not want to lose Christian Eriksen, but with a new deal between the club and the player unlikely and with Juventus interested in the Dane, striking up a swap deal for Paulo Dybala looks like the most reasonable way to end both the Eriksen and Dybala sagas this summer.

The interest from Juventus in Eriksen has been confirmed by CalcioMercato and it looks like the Lilywhites could be set to lose out on the player as the Old Lady have turned their attention to the Dane after it looks like they’ll be missing our on their top target Paul Pogba, who will likely stay at Manchester United.

With Eriksen wanting out and Juventus wanting Eriksen, it makes plenty of sense for Tottenham to capitalise on the opportunity and bring in Paulo Dybala as a part of that deal. The Argentine forward is two years younger than the Spurs man and can feature both in attacking midfield and upfront, with Spurs’ interest in the attacker documented by Football.London.

Both Eriksen and Dybala seem to want out of their clubs and with the massive fees that would be required to sign either of them it makes more sense for the pair to be included in the same deal to save both clubs a lot of money. It’s also fairly obvious that neither club will want to be stuck with a disgruntled player for the season.

Dybala’s Juventus contract runs until 2022 so the Serie A champions have no need to sell him, but seeing as they’ve brought in Aaron Ramsey, Matthijs De Ligt, Merih Demirel, Adrien Rabiot, Luca Pellegrini and Gianluigi Buffon, the chances are they’ll want to get a couple of players shifted from the wage bill.

Allowing their Argentine ace to leave would do just that, and if it coincided with bringing in Eriksen then it would only be a positive move for the Italian club, as well as pleasing plenty of Tottenham fans who wouldn’t have to worry about losing their Dane on a free and also bringing in a suitable replacement.
