Opinion: Tottenham could be set for transfer disappointment

|

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Rekeem Harper, but stiff competition from Liverpool and Juventus could see them miss out on his signature. Harper is out of contract at West Bromwich Albion after letting his deal run down this summer, but the Baggies are trying to convince him to sign a new deal.

The 19-year-old has three clubs keen on his services and could be lured away from the Championship side to play top-flight football in England or Italy. West Brom would be due a small compensation fee for Harper due to his age, but it will be a fraction of what he’s worth.

Tottenham have a good track record for developing English youngsters, but they may have a battle to land their man with Juventus ‘confident’ of signing the teenager.

Harper rose through the youth ranks to the West Brom first-team in 2018 and has gone on to make 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating two goals. The England u19 international racked up 1178 minutes of Championship football, made 20 successful dribbles (67%), averaged 22 passes-per-game with 85% accuracy and won 17 aerial duels (49%).

He’s talented prospect, but whether Tottenham can beat out Liverpool and Juve remains to be seen.
