Opinion: Tottenham can get the instant spark they need this weekend is Mourinho chances star

|

The Tottenham Hotspur midfield hasn’t been up to the required levels this season. The Lilywhites have got some top players and some amazing talents in their side, yet with Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele out injured, the double pivot in midfield could do with a freshen up.

That’s where the young Gedson Fernandes comes into the side. The 20-year-old midfielder is Jose Mourinho’s first signing at Tottenham, signing for the club on an 18-month loan from Portuguese side Benfica (BBC), and he could be just what the north London side needs.

The youngster excels with the ball at his feet, his powerful dribbling and ability to carry the ball in transition through from his own box to the opposition’s box makes him a fierce talent, and as well as boasting the powerful running of Sissoko, he has a better ability when it comes to playing the ball.

Obviously, Sissoko is the sharper and more aware player and the Frenchman is certainly more adapted to the pace of the Premier League than Gedson will be, but with the ex-Newcastle man out injured until April, we could be set to see Fernandes thrown in for a baptism of fire.

We’re not sure how long it will take for Mourinho yo throw Fernandes into the action, but given how long it took for Mauricio Pochettino to use Giovani Lo Celso because of his injuries, the fans will be desperate to see Gedson a lot sooner.

He'll star!

Flop

This weekend could be perfect for the Portuguese midfielder. Whether he gets dropped into a midfield pivot alongside either Harry Winks, Eric Dier or Lo Celso is yet to be seen, but we’re all desperate for Gedson to star when Tottenham travel to Watford.
