Opinion: The upcoming Tottenham fixture that has to be prioritised

|

Tottenham fans have got an awful lot of time for the FA Cup, the supporters absolutely adore the competition and have had some fantastic runs in it in the last few years. Back-to-back semi-final appearances in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons are the highlights, and now it’s about bettering that this season.

A fifth-round tie against Norwich City awaits the Lilywhites in six day’s time and with a win Spurs will be in the quarter-finals and just one win away from a trip to Wembley Stadium, and facing Norwich at home is a very winnable gane, especially with the Canaries battling against relegation.

The game that the Lilywhites face this weekend is another home game, this time against Wolves in the Premier League, and after beating Nuno Espirito Santo’s side 2-1 at Molineux over the festive period Jose Mourinho has the chance to do the double over the 2018 Championship winners.

However, that game is one thing, but the next one, when they face Norwich, has to be prioritised. Mourinho was brought to Spurs to win trophies and this is the first realistic chance that he has of doing so, as Spurs are currently just four wins away from lifting the cup.

Whatever happens, it won’t be easy, with all of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ still in the competition. At least one of them will be going out, though, as Chelsea travel to Liverpool, but there really will be no easy draws left when for the quarter-finals, assuming Tottenham can get past Norwich.

Can Jose Mourinho win us the FA Cup this season?

No

Yes

Finishing in the Champions League spots will obviously be exactly what Daniel Levy wants, but the fans have been craving silverware for a long time, and ending the club’s barren spell without winning anything would be the perfect way to endear Mourinho to the fans that have their doubts.
