Opinion: The sooner this ace can get into the left-back role the better

|

Tottenham fans were all seemingly very pleased when their side managed to hold onto Danny Rose despite plenty of reports that he could be off over the summer, which was first reported by The Daily Mail, however so far, there have been issues with Rose at left-back.

Ben Davies made his first start of the campaign at left-back after Rose was left at home for their Champions League trip to Greece to face Olympiacos, although Davies was hardly much better, despite doing well to intercept and lay off Lucas Moura for their second goal.

A lot of the issues that were found in the defence in that game was the fact that they were constantly overrun and right-back due to the fact that Davinson Sanchez is not a right-back, leaving them stuck with the other three members of the back four struggling against Olympiacos’ attack.

As long as there is balance in the back four with a right-back ready to push up and attack alongside the left-back then things should work out, and with Rose struggling for early form and Ben Davis still waiting to get into some rhythm, Mauricio Pochettino must be dying to get Ryan Sessegnon fit.

As things stand, Sessegnon is injured and the latest injury update that came from Sessegnon was on Thursday as the Lilywhites claimed, via Twitter, that the former Fulham man is having his progress monitored as he continues rehabilitation from a hamstring problem.

With that in mind, it looks like today’s clash against Leicester has come far too soon, but the opportunity may be there for him to take up a place on the bench and maybe get 20 minutes or so under his belt against Colchester, before a potential return against Southampton next week, which is something the fans should be very excited for.
