Opinion: Spurs sales could strengthen 22 y/o’s position at the club

Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier are among the players Spurs are willing to sell, according to The Daily Mail.

While Spurs has shown a greater willingness to spend money this summer, as indicated by the signing of Tanguy Ndombele, there could be ready-made replacements for the potentially outgoing right backs within the club.

Centre back Juan Foyth played at right back for Spurs five times last season, while he also predominantly played there in Copa América for Argentina.

He caught the eye during the third place play-off against Chile, where he completed an impressive five successful tackles, five clearances and four interceptions – as he went on to be rated the third best player on the pitch by WhoScored.

Though there is another young defender who could be set to benefit from the potential outgoings: Kyle Walker-Peters – the 22-year-old only started seven games across all competitions last season, coming off the bench twice.

He showed a glimpse of what he is capable of in the 5-0 battering of AFC Bournemouth, where he got three assists – with his final one the pick of the bunch, as he ran behind Charlie Daniels and played a superb first-time volley over to Lucas Moura for the Brazilian to finish.

Though he didn’t get much of a look in throughout the season, with the more experienced Trippier and Aurier picked ahead of him.

While he probably won’t be a regular starter, seeing at least one of the aforementioned names leave will strengthen Walker-Peters’ place at the club – potentially leading to the England Under 21 international getting more regular game time.

He can have an impact for the club and less competition on the right side of defence will help him do that.
