Opinion: Right-back could leave Tottenham

|

According to The Sun, Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Manchester United and Everton are interested in Kieran Trippier. The Tottenham defender is rumoured to be on his way out this summer after struggling for consistency in 2018/19, but he won’t come cheap. Trippier has an asking price of £40m which may be too steep for suitors, especially after an underwhelming campaign.

The 28-year-old has admitted not being at his best this season which might scare off clubs. Trippier’s stock couldn’t be higher last summer after impressing for Tottenham in the league and England at the World Cup, but he’s been a shadow of the player from a year ago. It’s hard to see clubs paying so much money for an out-of-form right-back.

Trippier remains a regular for Spurs, making 33 appearances in all competitions, but he’s made mistakes leading to goals and continues to be linked with a move away from the club. Whether Mauricio Pochettino would let the English international go remains to be seen, but his performances over the last nine months have left a lot to be desired.

Serge Aurier is second-choice at right-back and is more likely to be sold, but if Tottenham do bring in another fullback this summer, Trippier’s future may also be uncertain.
