Opinion: Recent reports over potential January signing can only be good news for Tottenham

|

We haven’t even reached November yet but that hasn’t stopped the rumours coming in surrounding transfers that might be set to go through in January. On the Tottenham Hotspur front, things are no different, and rumours are starting to circle surrounding potential incomings.

One of the latest rumours that has surfaced surrounds a midfielder from La Liga. Tottenham fans may argue that they have plenty of midfield options with the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry WInks, Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso, however, if Mauricio Pochettino wants a new centre-mid he shouldn’t be argued with.

The midfield in question is Barcelona’s young Carles Aleñá. The 21-year-old has only played 45 minutes of club football for Barcelona’s senior side this season, although given the players ahead of him in the pecking order at the Camp Nou that is hardly surprising.

However, forget about his lack of football, Aleñá, whose been linked to Tottenham by Mundo Deportivo, via The Daily Mail, is a talented young midfielder and he certainly got game time last season even if he hasn’t had similar so far in the current campaign.

Last season the Spaniard played 90 minutes against Tottenham at the Camp Nou in that 1-1 draw that saw the Lilywhites qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, but that was just one of his 27 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions last season on top of eight outings for Barcelona B, Transfermarkt.

If the midfielder is snapped up by Tottenham we’re not expecting him to step into the side and become the first name on the team sheet given the options that the Lilywhites have, but at the age of 21-years-old he has so much time to adapt and grow into the role, and game time would certainly be easier to come by at Spurs as opposed to at Barcelona.
