Opinion: Proposed Tottenham signing was always too good to be true

|

This summer is looking to have a massive climax for Tottenham. After weeks of frustration, the Lilywhites are in for a blockbuster deadline day, although it looks like one of their proposed deals is now off, as was recently reported.

The player in question that now looks like he won’t be making his way to North London is Paulo Dybala. The Argentine’s move to Tottenham is now reportedly off, according to David Ornstein, as Juventus are supposedly not prepared to sell the player this summer.

It all seems very strange that after the two clubs had reportedly agreed to a fee and that the Lilywhites were thought to be well underway with talks over personal terms and image rights that it’s now off with Juve refusing to sell, but they’re the facts at the moment.

In truth, it was always a deal that seemed too good to be true. The Argentine attacker is viewed as one of the best in the world in his position and the Tottenham fans who were desperate for this to come through will be absolutely gutted.

The Argentine’s numbers at Juventus are more than impressive. In his time in Turin after leaving Palermo in summer 2015 has seen him rack up 182 appearances for the club, and in those games, he’s bagged a combined 108 goals and assists, 78 goals and 30 assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Those kind of numbers alongside Harry Kane would be more than an amazing addition in North London and the fans would have loved to have seen it happen, but it just isn’t one that is going to happen, and the fans will have to get by with the goalscoring talents they already have.

Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura aren’t short of goals, but it would have been a brilliant addition to get the extra star man in. It may be one that is revisited in January or next year, but for now there will be no move for Dybala at Tottenham.
