Opinion: Pochettino could sell out-of-favour winger if Tottenham sign Spanish international

|

According to the Mirror, Tottenham are reigniting their interesting in Suso and could rival Arsenal to procure his signature. The Spanish international has a £35m release clause at AC Milan and would likely be a replacement for Erik Lamela given his preferred position matches that of the out-of-favour winger.

Lamela has made 15 Premier League appearances this season, amounting to less than 800 minutes of playing time. The 26-year-old hasn’t scored a league goal since November and hasn’t played in seven of their last 13 outings. Suso could have more of an impact than Lamela, but whether Mauricio Pochettino would sell the Tottenham winger remains to be seen.

He’s made a total of 181 appearances in all competitions since his 2013-move from AS Roma, but he’s been short of playing time in the last two-and-a-half seasons – 593 minutes in 2016/17, 832 minutes in 2017/18 and 305 minutes in 2018/19.

Suso doesn’t have the same issues with his fitness, however, with the Spaniard making 92 appearances in the last two-and-a-half seasons, contributed 42 goals.

The former Liverpool wide-man could be a good option on the right flank and would be an upgrade on Lamela and maybe Lucas Moura, but it’s unknown if Spurs will pay £35m to sign him.
