Opinion: Tottenham ready to make an offer for player, wouldn’t give Pochettino what he needs now

|

The Independent have claimed Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make an offer worth around £20million for Leeds United’s Jack Clarke.

The teenager has been outstanding this season for the Championship outfit, perhaps, making it no real surprise that a host of clubs have become interested in him.

He clearly has plenty of talent and it would be wrong to suggest that he does not have what it takes to be a hit in the Premier League in the future. Clarke fits the mould of players Tottenham would love to have at the club and is a player Mauricio Pochettino would surely love to have on the training field day in and day out.

However, that is the problem. We do not necessarily need someone for the future at the moment; we need someone who can come into the team and do a job for us straight away.

Spurs should be looking at bringing in players this summer who can help to take us up another level and finally help to end our wait for a trophy – a player that has already developed into a quality and established individual and one that can provide a top-drawer performance on a regular and consistent basis would be ideal.

Despite the defeat in the Champions League final, we will still be a hugely attractive club for big-name players to join and those are the men that we should be looking to attract.

A winger is certainly the right position to try and strengthen with Erik Lamela and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou unlikely to have an impact next season, however, Clarke surely is not the answer.
