Tottenham fans know that this summer will be a big one for a lot of players at the club. Kieran Trippier has already departed (BBC) and Danny Rose is not apart of the club’s pre-season tour as he looks for a move away, yet there are others who have uncertain futures, including Victor Wanyama.
The Kenyan midfielder missed 20 games last season through a succession of knee problems, Transfermarkt, and now it looks like Mauricio Pochettino is ready to part with his midfield man after three years of service that the ex-Southampton man has put in for the North London side.
It was claimed by ExWHUemployee on The West Ham Way podcast that the Hammers are looking into the possibility of bringing in the 28-year-old midfielder this summer, and if the opportunity arises then the Lilywhites should be ready to let the Kenyan go in a flash.
Whilst Wanyama may have been very impressive in his first couple of seasons at the club, he’s become a bit-part player and wasn’t reliable last season, missing a lot of time through injury, as was previously mentioned, and falling behind some of his midfield teammates in the pecking order.
If it wasn’t bad enough falling behind Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko in the midfield order, the signing of Tanguy Ndombele (BBC) has knocked Wanyama even further back, and for both Spurs and the player, an exit looks like the best possible outcome.
The rivalry between West Ham and Spurs shouldn’t stop Daniel Levy from selling Wanyama to the Hammers either. A mid-table Premier League side would be ideal for the player to find his feet again after such an injury-hit campaign, especially seeing as some players are never quite the same after suffering with knee problems.
Should Wanyama make an exit this summer he’ll have a memorable time at Spurs to look back on. The Kenyan has put in 93 appearances for Tottenham across his three seasons with the club and scored a belter against Liverpool, dispatching a thunderbolt into the top corner at Anfield, a goal that will live long in the memory of the fans no matter where Wanyama plays his football.
