Opinion: Midfielder could leave Tottenham

|

Josh Onomah has an uncertain future this summer. The 22-year-old recently returned to Tottenham following a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday but may struggle for opportunities at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a result of stiff competition for places.

Onomah has made 32 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, the last of which came against Watford on April 8, 2017. The midfielder has the likes of Harry Winks, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen ahead of him in the pecking order and hasn’t featured under Mauricio Pochettino for more than two years.

His contract has two more years to run, but it’s very unlikely that he will see them out. Onomah didn’t have the best time at Hillsborough, racking up only 904 minutes of playing time in the Championship, so won’t have done much to impress Pochettino if they’ve been monitoring his progress.

Between late-December and mid-April, Onomah made only one league appearance for Sheff Wed after dislocating his elbow. He returned from injury before the end of the Championship season to make three appearances in the run-in, but Wednesday not opting to turn his deal permanent speaks volumes.

The midfielder has spent the last two seasons out on loan and might not have a future at Tottenham past this summer.
