Opinion: Mauricio Pochettino could run out of time to sell £70k-per-week Tottenham man

|

Serge Aurier is expected to leave Tottenham this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by Mauricio Pochettino, but there hasn’t been much interest in his signature and time is running out for Spurs to offload him. AS Monaco were linked with Aurier in May, but nothing has come from the rumours.

The £70k-per-week defender is currently representing the Ivory Coast national team at the African Cup of Nations which could keep him away until July 19 if his side goes all the way. Aurier would likely be handed a short holiday before returning for pre-season at Tottenham, meaning he may not be back in training until late-July or early-August.

The summer transfer window closes on August 8, so Spurs would only have one or two weeks to broker a deal for Aurier when he returns from international duty. The 26-year-old has made it clear that he doesn’t want to leave Tottenham and is happy in London, but numerous reports suggest the feeling isn’t mutual.

If Pochettino wants to cash in on Aurier, he needs to move fast and offer the defender out to other clubs.
