Opinion: Mauricio Pochettino could make another embarrassing U-turn on Tottenham man

|

Vincent Janssen is expected to leave Tottenham after struggling for form and playing time ever since his move from AZ Alkmaar in 2016. The 25-year-old has scored only six goals in 42 games in all competitions and has made only four Premier League appearances in the last two seasons.

Mauricio Pochettino has no place for Jannsen in the side and will accept offers for him this summer, but the Tottenham boss is struggling to find suitors which could force him into making another embarrassing U-turn.

Janssen was left out of the Champions League squad, banished from the first-team, stripped of his No.9 shirt and made available for sale in January. He failed to secure a move, and amid an injury crisis in April, Pochettino would eventually make a U-turn on the Dutch international.

He brought him back into the first-team, reinstated his No.9 shirt and gave him a handful of appearances during the last few weeks of the season. Despite the 25-year-old’s reprieve, Janssen was still on the transfer list and would be sold for the right price over the summer.

No club appear willing to meet his £7.1m valuation and £1.77m-a-year wage demands, however, which could see Pochettino make another U-turn on Janssen – Nat Hayward of Sky Sports believes Janssen could stay on at Tottenham as backup next season. Time will tell if that prediction rings true.
