Opinion: Man Utd may have to pay £95m and £12.5m wages to sign Tottenham man

|

According to the Mirror, Manchester United are interested in Christian Eriksen and are willing to treble his wages to £12.5m-a-year/£240k-per-week to bring him to Old Trafford this summer. The Tottenham midfielder looks on his way out of the club at the end of the season as no progress has been made on extending his contract.

Eriksen won’t come cheap, however, with Daniel Levy reportedly wanting £95m for the Danish international, but the Red Devils have the resources to match his asking price. The 27-year-old may be worth the outlay too as he’s scored and created 18 goals in 25 Premier League starts this season. He’s created 66 chances and averages 52 passes-per-game with 82% accuracy.

Eriksen’s contract at Tottenham expires next year, so the club have a choice to make whether to cash in this summer or risk losing him for nothing in 2020. If United are really prepared to stump up so much money for the midfielder, selling early makes a lot of sense. Two stellar replacements could be signed with £95m.

Having to let the Dane go to a Premier League rival is a situation Tottenham didn’t want to be in, but their options are limited.
