Opinion: Long-term Tottenham man is well within his rights to want to stay

|

Tottenham fans have got a fair few players that don’t want to be sticking around at the club and have got contract issues. However, it now seems that they’ve also got a player who doesn’t want to leave but has a contract problem in the form of Danny Rose.

The England left-back is a top player and has shown what he can do over the last few years for the Lilywhites, however, his recent interview with Dan Kilpatrick of The Evening Standard has shed a lot of light on the thinking of the full-back as his current deal expires in summer 2021.

The defender, despite knowing that he has no chance of getting a new deal after Daniel Levy made it very clear that this would be the case, he still wants to stay at the club and has made it extremely obvious that so long as Mauricio Pochettino is at the club and has faith in him then he won’t be going anywhere.

Rose claimed: ‘When the manager stops calling me into his office, stops giving me advice, that’s when I’ll think it’s time to leave Tottenham.’

‘But until then, I’m not going anywhere. I’m lucky to have a manager at Tottenham who, from the first day we met, has always stuck by me, regardless of anything, regardless of the rubbish in the media about me being sold or not part of his plans — all that nonsense.’

It really does show how much faith that Pochettino has in Rose, and seeing as his contract runs until 2021 and he’s started 11 out of the club’s 16 games in the Premier League and Champions League this season (Transfermarkt), it seems that he still has a lot left to give for Tottenham.

Who should be our first choice left-back?

It can only be the decision of Rose where his future should be, and if he wants to stay in north London then he cannot be faulted, despite the fact that a lot of fans will want him out and aren’t keen on seeing him stay until 2021.
