Opinion: Late Tottenham development could make the club’s window

|

It is all starting to get exciting. We now have a matter of hours left until the transfer window slams shut and the talk is that Tottenham are set for a very late bonanza of action, which could include the huge purchase of Paulo Dybala.

That has come via Gianluca DiMarzio, the very reliable Italian journalist who is well known to break stories year upon year and window upon window. This time, the fans will be desperate for his information to be correct as he’s claimed that Juventus and Spurs have reached a Dybala agreement.

It is still all to be done on the personal terms and wages front, but as far as agreeing a fee is concerned, the Lilywhites have agreed on a deal and it will be up to Daniel Levy to repeat what he did when he convinced Tanguy Ndombele to sign, this time with a bigger name.

A lot of fans were starting to believe that their window would be over and end in disappointment, and who could blame them? When the window ticked down to the final 48 hours at 5pm yesterday, there was no talk of this deal for Juventus’ sublime Argentine, now it pops up everywhere you look.

The 25-year-old will bring a lot to the Premier League and he could be the man to finally end Tottenham’s 11-year trophy drought. It’s been a barren spell for the Lilywhites, but after coming close in the Champions League last season, adding the former Palermo man can only be a huge step forward.

Last season in Serie A, Dybala recorded his worst numbers in a Juventus shirt, and that is more than likely to the arrival of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, forcing the Argentine out of the limelight. However, he still chipped in five goals and five assists.

In comparison, the previous season (2017/18), Juventus’ star man tore the Serie A to pieces, scoring a whopping 22 times and assisting a further five (Transfermarkt), so the talent is obviously there, and it will be up to Mauricio Pochettino to unlock it and get the best out of the attacker should he sign on the dotted line before tomorrow at 5pm.
