Opinion: Lapse in discipline could seriously cost young Tottenham man

|

Before we get started and you’re ready to laugh at us for worrying over young Troy Parrott’s disciplinary record, we know that his second yellow on Thursday was extremely harsh and a massive farce in itself, so just hear us out and see what you think.

The young Spurs man is one of those players who has been touted to be a massive, massive player in the future. Unfortunately, though, being touted as a future world-beater means very little unless you build on that early promise, and Parrott needs to do just that, even if there are few doubts that he will.

The Irishman was involved in a scuffle in the week when Moise Kean lashed out at him during an U21 tie between Ireland and Italy, and whilst Parrott didn’t react or lash out in retaliation, the fact that he seemed to be on the wrong end of a Kean outburst was enough to earn him a second yellow in eyes of the referee.

We know this is a strange one, and normally the striker would have stayed on the pitch, but it’s not the first time that Parrott has been sent off in his very short career to date, and playing as a striker that is not a record you want, with multiple dismissals before his 18th birthday.

In the end, the game went on to finish 0-0 as two of the most likely en on the pitch to score a goal were given their marching orders on 64 minutes, but it could have been so different. When on a booking, Parrott should have stayed out of the way and kept himself to himself, but that wasn’t the case.

Whilst he didn’t lash out and have a go at Kean, he put himself in the situation where the referee had a decision to make, obviously agitating an already fiery Kean to the point that he managed to get a reaction worthy, or not so as the case may be, of seeing two players given their armband.

It’s not the first time either that he’s been shown red, as back in August 2018 he was sent off for an incident in a North London derby, and this is something that he will have to get out of his game as soon as possible or risk becoming something of a liability.
