Opinion: La Liga heavyweight would make a wonderful addition at Tottenham

|

Tottenham fans have been a massive boost as they head into the final hours of the window. With just over 24 hours of transfer action left, Philippe Coutinho has been touted as a potential signing for Tottenham, albeit on loan, and he would be sublime.

The Brazilian has already ripped the Premier League apart once during his Liverpool days, and after struggling to have the same impact at the very top in La Liga with Barcelona, it could now be time for the ex-Inter Milan man to return to England get his mojo back.

According to Sky Sports, Mauricio Pochettino made a personal phone call to the winger and the Lilywhites are now the favourites to land the extremely talented attacking midfielder. It would also see a reunion between Coutinho and Pochettino, who previously worked together at Espanyol.

The former Anfield favourite is well and truly surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, although it’s believed that very few teams have the means to splash out and sign him permanently owing to Barcelona’s £80m price, although that figure will hardly be a surprise after they spent £142m on him in January 2018.

The Brazilian could be a perfect replacement for Christian Eriksen, who Sky Sports are also reporting is a target for Manchester United, and bringing in someone a similar age to the Dane who knows the league seems to be the smartest way around getting in a new man should their 27-year-old playmaker be on his way.

In his Anfield days, Coutinho managed to rack up a mightily impressive 54 goals and 45 assists in 201 games for the Reds, Transfermarkt, working out at roughly a goal or assist every other game, and should he sign for Spurs and replicate that form the Lilywhites will have made a very smart investment.
