Opinion: Key man’s fury is an indictment of the way Tottenham are run

|

If you haven’t yet seen Mauricio Pochettino’s comments from after his side’s 1-0 win against Real Madrid yesterday, then Football.London have got you covered, and it makes for a very interesting read as the Argentine was far from his happy, jokey and easy-going self that we’ve all come to know and love.

Instead, much to the contrary, Pochettino seemed agitated, frustrated and annoyed as he suggested that he couldn’t answer some of the questions being levelled at him as they were questions for the club, as well as suggesting that he should change his title at Spurs to just being a coach.

It looks from the outside like the Argentine is far from happy with Daniel Levy and those above him at Tottenham. After two windows without a new signing this summer was supposed to be the big one, yet with just over a week to go the Lilywhites have brought in one player for the senior side after letting both Mousa Dembele and Kieran Trippier leave in 2019.

We don’t know Pochettino’s true intentions and it’s impossible to know what’s going on directly between Levy and Poch, but it seems pretty clear that something is very wrong. The transfer window closes next Thursday, and you’d imagine that Spurs’ gaffer would have wanted more than just Tanguy Ndombele by now.

The fans are in a similar position, the pressure is building on transfers, and whilst Levy may be keen on waiting until the last minute to force through a deal on the cheap, he’s robbing Pochettino of time to implement his fitness and tactical training with new signings.

Whatever happens in the next seven days, some real progress will have to be made for the fans and Pochettino to be happy with the summer, but it’s hard to see a way in which Daniel Levy can make up for his lack of signings over the course of the window so far.
