Opinion: Inter may have to pay £18m and £3.6m wages to sign Tottenham defender

|

According to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Inter Milan are interested in Serge Aurier and could make a move for the Tottenham defender this summer. Aurier has struggled for form and playing time under Mauricio Pochettino and could be sold as a result.

Inter’s Sporting Director Piero Ausilio is reportedly monitoring Aurier and travelled to watch Tottenham’s Champions League clash with Manchester City. Spurs paid £23m to sign Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and will want most of that money back for his sale.

The Ivorian international has a market value of £18m with Transfermarkt and Capology. CIES value the defender between £13m and £17m. According to Spotrac, Aurier earns £3.6m-a-year/£70k-per-week at Tottenham. If the right-back is sold, Kyle Walker-Peters could replace him, so no replacement needs to be signed.

Aurier has made 41 appearances in all competitions since joining Spurs, scoring and creating 10 goals. This season, the 26-year-old has featured in 17 games across the board – eight in the Premier League, five in the Champions League, three in the EFL Cup and one in the FA Cup – but it behind Kieran Trippier in the pecking order.

He’s spent the majority of the campaign on the bench or out of the matchday squad, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him sold in the coming months.
