Opinion: BT Sport pundit couldn’t be more wrong about Harry Kane’s future

|

We all saw Tottenham limp towards a 2-0 lead against Olympiacos on Wednesday night before they went on to limp towards a 2-2 draw. After the game, Mauricio Pochettino was fuming, and it seems that his anger was justified as Harry Kane then came out with some cutting comments.

The Tottenham vice-captain spoke well about his side’s issues, saying to Eurosport:

‘You can see why the manager is frustrated. He has been here for five years now and we’re still making similar mistakes as we were the first year.’

It’s fairly hard to disagree with the goalscorer too, the way that Tottenham allowed a two-goal lead to slip and only manage a point for the second time in three games, albeit with a smashing 4-0 win inbetween it, there are certain problems that need addressing.

However, after making these comments and when the dust started to settle on the fact that the Lilywhites were only second in their Champions League group after Bayern Munich trounced FK Crvena Zvezda 3-0 at home, the Tottenham game then went to the Bt Sport’s pundits.

That’s when Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United’s Champions League-winning captain from their 2008 campaign, claimed that if he was Kane, he would be looking to leave the Lilywhites in pursuit of instant success. It split the studio, with ex-Spurs man Peter Crouch disagreeing, but Ferdinand’s comments were fierce.

You can see exactly how the conversation went here on Twitter, and make your own mind up, but Harry Kane needs to stay at Tottenham. At the club, he’s already a legend and a leader and whilst Pochettino is at the helm it’s hard to see a way that Kane does leave the club.

The grass may well be greener on the other side, but Kane has spearheaded Tottenham’s attack and their trophy hunt since the start of Poch’s reign, and if he leaves before this side peaks, if they haven’t already, then it could derail the whole side, something Kane will likely be well aware of.
