According to the Football Insider, Bournemouth are interested in Cameron Carter-Vickers and want to sign the 22-year-old on a season-long loan deal this summer. Jose Mourinho is happy to let Carter-Vickers leave as he’s surplus to requirements, but Daniel Levy may not sanction the deal as it could see us miss out on £3.5m.
I’ll explain…
Carter-Vickers has no future at Tottenham. He’s only made four appearances in all competitions since rising through the youth ranks to our first-team and currently finds himself behind Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth in the pecking order.
The centre-back’s lack of playing time has led to multiple loan moves away – Sheffield United (August 25, 2017 – January 15, 2018), Ipswich Town (January 19, 2018 – May 31, 2018), Swansea City (August 25, 2018 – May 31, 2019), Stoke City (August 8, 2019 – January 2, 2020), Luton Town (January 30, 2020 – July 31, 2020) – so an exit has been on the cards for some time.
The problem is that Carter-Vickers is in the last year of his deal in North London, so we need to find a club willing to sign him permanently this summer or we risk losing him for nothing in 2021. Bournemouth’s proposal would see them loan Carter-Vickers for the season, so we’d be unable to cash in as he’d be out of contract when his stint at Dean Court ends.
We wanted £4m for Carter-Vickers in January but have since lowered our asking price to £2.5m. The 22-year-old earns £20k-per-week/£1.04m-a-year in wages, as per Spotrac, so his permanent sale could see us generate £3.5m this summer. If we’re left paying his wages for the final year of his contract and end up releasing him in 2021, we won’t get a sausage.
Luton Town were linked with a move for Carter-Vickers earlier this summer and now Bournemouth have entered the race for his signature, so the defender will have his pick of clubs to join ahead of the new season. A move away suits all parties, as Carter-Vickers never stood a chance of upsetting the applecart, so here’s hoping we can make some money through his sale.
In other news, Danny Rose wants to leave Tottenham and go abroad – here’s where he could end up
