Opinion: Bounce back is the only option for Jose after Tottenham’s midweek defeat

|

This weekend Tottenham host Burnley in the Premier League and it’s a game that has become a must-win clash. The Lilywhites beat West Ham, Olympiacos and Bournemouth in Jose Mourinho’s first three, but failing to beat Burnley could spark a three-game spell without a win for the new gaffer.

Admittedly the three-game run that the Lilywhites find themselves going into now are certainly not easy. The home tie with Burnley is sandwiched between trips to face Manchester United and Bayern Munich, and with that game at Old Trafford ending in disappointment, Bayern will only be harder.

The German giants have already dispatched Tottenham by a massive five goals, winning 7-2 at the brand new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and whilst Spurs fans won’t expect to get three points against Bayern in the return clash, the last thing they need is to go three games without a win.

The form that Spurs have been in was nothing short of embarrassing before Mourinho came to the club, although his first four games have brought three wins, including the club’s first Premier League away win since January, so things have gone well on the whole.

However, bouncing back is going to be crucial this weekend. As much as winning games is crucial in sport, what is so important is being able to react to poor results and get back on track quickly, and this home game against Sean Dyche’s Clarets is going to be a great chance to see how Jose’s Spurs react.

Is Alli Back To His Best?

Yes

No

He's Improving, But Can Still Be Better

The chances are the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura, who didn’t have their best performances at Old Trafford, will be desperate to hit back, and with Dele Alli in the form of his life he’ll likely star, so it should be a good chance for Mourinho to bounce back and show that Wednesday was a one-off.
