Opinion: 30 G+A midfield man would make a superb addition at Tottenham in January

|

Last season, before that incredible game in Amsterdam in which Lucas Moura wrote his name into both Tottenham and Champions League history, the Lilywhites had to endure a tough first leg in which the magnificent Donny van de Beek scored the only goal in a tough game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Dutch midfielder, though, could now be set to score plenty more goals at the amazing new stadium in North London, as it’s reported that Tottenham are after the 22-year-old in January, much like they were in the summer, even if they’re not the only side after the Ajax man.

These latest reports have come from FCInterNews, who, as you can imagine, have also reported that Inter Milan are interested in the attacking midfielder alongside the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid, making it a transfer that won’t be easy to get completed.

However, over the course of the summer, The Daily Mail reported of the club’s interest in Van de Beek, this was then backed up even further as Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan went on the record talking to talkSPORT and claimed that the player wanted a move to either Tottenham or Man United in the Premier League.

It also seems like Van de Beek would make for a brilliant player at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Last season saw the youngster score 17 goals and assist a further 13 in all competitions, Transfermarkt, as he helped Ajax make their way to the Champions League’s last four for the first time since 1997.

Now, though, if the midfielder wants to make it back there it looks like he’ll have to do so away from Ajax, seeing as the squad that did so last season had it’s two major gems ripped out in the form of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie De Jong, and now it could be Van de Beek’s turn.

His ability to score and assist from midfield is extremely clear, and whilst no one’s expecting the youngster to come to England from the Netherlands and be a 30 G+A player straight away, he definitely looks like someone who could play Mauricio Pochettino’s style of high-intensity football and thrive.
