Opinion: 2 reasons why Tottenham won’t sign out-of-favour Real Madrid man

|

La Liga expert Terry Gibson talked up the idea of Tottenham signing Isco, suggesting Spurs would love to have the Real Madrid playmaker at their disposal if he’s struggling for playing time at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 26-year-old has been short of minutes under Santiago Solari and could be on the move if he continues to be on the periphery.

Gibson said to Hawksbee and Jacobs on talkSPORT (h/t HITC): “Isco I think he’s waiting to see if he lasts longer than the manager. I think that’s the only issue there. We’d take him at Spurs”. Tottenham may be open to signing Isco, but there are two reasons why they don’t stand much of a chance of bringing the Spanish international to London.

Isco wouldn’t come cheap. He has three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal so Real aren’t under any obligation to cash in. The midfielder is valued by CIES at £37.3m and has a release clause of £620m. His club valuation is likely to be between the two figures which could price Tottenham out of signing him. They may struggle to convince him to leave Real too.

Since joining Los Blancos in 2013, Isco has won four Champions League crowns, one Liga title and one Copa Del Rey trophy. It’s hard to see him jumping at the chance to join Tottenham if he were to leave.
