Monday mornings are not usually something many people look forward to, however, Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan has sent Tottenham Hotspur fans into a frenzy with the comments he made.

Speaking on TalkSPORT’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast programme, the journalist revealed Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek is very keen on a move to the Premier League and sees Spurs as a potential destination along with Manchester United.

“Donny van de Beek has his eyes set on the Premier League,” Van der Kraan said. “I think he’s a proper Premier League player – he’s got a big tank, he’s got the education from Ajax, he can play in more positions in midfield.

The 22-year-old is one of a number of outstanding talents to have come out of the Amsterdam-based outfit’s academy in recent years and is clearly one of the most promising midfield talents within the game at the moment.

He recorded 17 goals and 13 assists for the Eredivisie outfit last season and would have to be considered a player that would thrive playing for Mauricio Pochettino.

A hugely versatile midfielder, the Holland international would be able to play in a number of positions in the middle of the field, therefore giving the manager a number of options moving forward if he were to join them in the summer.

Van de Beek appears to have all the qualities of being able to replace Christian Eriksen in the future, after the former Ajax man all-but-admitted that his time with us is over as he looks for a fresh challenge away from the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (Ekstra Bladet).

As mentioned, those comments sent fans into a wild frenzy on Twitter after they were made, with the majority of them telling Spurs to get him signed. Here are just some of their reactions…

  • Worryingly little in the way of solid transfer activity from Tottenham thus far, is this to be a typical season of waivering procrastination and missed opportunities yet again from Dan Levy, as I’ve already heard it rumoured that Spurs won’t bid more than £40M for Lo Celsco? I think it would be very concerning if Tottenham fail to undertake some serious investment before the season begins. just like last year we hear rumour after rumour throughout the summer period and we all know how that went. More of the same would be an abject failure to address what is clearly needed, hope you’re listening Mr Levy!
