Official: Tottenham sign 17-year-old

|

Tottenham confirmed on Friday that they’ve signed Kion Etete from Notts County. The 17-year-old broke into the County first-team last season, making six appearances in all competitions. Etete’s contract at Meadow Lane expired this summer and Spurs pounced.

The Magpies finished 23rd in League Two and suffered relegation to the National League, so they had little chance convincing Etete to stay. The Englishman rose through the youth ranks to the County first-team in November 28, 2018, making his debut against Newcastle u23s in the EFL Trophy on September 10, 2018 – coming off the bench with 14 minutes to go.

Etete made his League Two debut against Port Vale on November 3 and his FA Cup debut against Barnsley on November 10. The striker would go on to feature against Morecambe (November 24), Oldham Athletic (January 1, 2019) and Cambridge United (January 12) before the season came to a close. Now, he’ll come up against some of the best academies in the country.

Etete could play for Tottenham u18s and u23s depending on how well he performs in 2019/20. The teenager has Harry Kane, Fernando Llorente, Heung-min Son and Vincent Janssen standing in his way of featuring in the first-team, but he has time on his side to progress to that level.
