Official: Eric Dier injury update

|

Tottenham have confirmed that Eric Dier is still undergoing rehabilitation after having a medical procedure in mid-July on a problem that was detected early into pre-season. The 25-year-old hasn’t been able to escape injuries this year and could be starting the new season short of fitness.

Dier made just seven Premier League appearances in 2019 and hasn’t played a minute of football in pre-season. With Tottenham’s first league game just eleven days away, the England international is likely to miss out. Mauricio Pochettino has Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks available so Dier’s absence won’t be felt.

The defensive-midfielder endured contrasting fortunes in 2018/19. He was a regular in the first half of last season, featuring in all but three league games up until mid-December, before spending the majority of 2019 on the treatment table. Dier had an appendectomy, suffered from illness and had a hip injury to contend with.

His absence this summer has led to him missing Spurs’ pre-season friendlies against Juventus (July 21), Manchester United (July 25) and Real Madrid (July 30). Fans will be eagerly anticipating Dier’s return to the Tottenham side, but they may have to be patient.
