Official: Ben Davies injury update

|

Tottenham have revealed that Ben Davies is still recovering from surgery on his groin. The 26-year-old was left out of the Audi Cup squad that beat Real Madrid on Tuesday evening and won’t feature against Bayern Munich/Fenerbahce on July 31 either.

Davies underwent surgery in late-June and hasn’t played a minute of football in pre-season, missing Spurs’ International Champions Cup double-header with Juventus (July 21) and Manchester United (July 25), and their inaugural Audi Cup clash with Real Madrid (July 30).

Tottenham’s opening game against Aston Villa is eleven days away and it appears the Welsh international could miss out. Mauricio Pochettino had a brief selection headache at left-back, but Danny Rose returned against Real and may stay at Spurs if he doesn’t get a tempting offer elsewhere.

There’s been no estimated return date for Davies, but he should return to training next month – recovery from groin surgery can take up to four weeks. Whether he’s able to take part in strenuous activity in early-August remains to be seen, however.

Tottenham have two friendlies left before their first game of the campaign, but supporters are unlikely to see Davies feature in any of them.
