Official: Another Tottenham defender ruled out of Sunday’s meeting with Newcastle

|

Tottenham will be without another defender ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle. Spurs confirmed on Friday that Ryan Sessegnon remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and is continuing his rehabilitation.

The 19-year-old has yet to make his Tottenham debut since joining from Fulham on August 8. Danny Rose and Ben Davies are currently ahead of Sessegnon at left-back, so he has a tough task to get minutes under Mauricio Pochettino.

Sunday’s meeting would have been the ideal game to give Sessegnon a run-out too. Newcastle have started the new season very slowly and find themselves 19th in the Premier League table without a point to their name after losing their opening two games – Arsenal (1-0), Norwich City (3-1).

Tottenham have started the campaign strongly with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa and 2-2 draw with Manchester City. They’re currently sixth in the table and big favourites to pick up all three points against Steve Bruce’s side. Tottenham’s injury update doesn’t say when Sessegnon will return, but it could be September at this rate.

Pochettino has plenty of options in his stead, so the 19-year-old’s absence won’t hurt Spurs ahead of gameweek three.
