Despite Fernando Llorente moving on from Tottenham Hotspur this summer as his contract came to an end, there have always been simple suggestions that we may have placed another 12-month deal on the table for him as he continues to assess his future.
Report Suggests Former Spurs Striker Could Still Return On Reduced Terms
With his release, there were strong suggestions on the rumour mill that the 34-year-old would return home to the Spanish leagues as he looked to wind his career down, and everyone knows he splits the opinions in the fanbase right down the middle in terms of his usefulness as back up to Harry Kane.
Over the weekend the Daily Mail seem to have simply rehashed the rumours of a 12 month deal and presented it as ‘new fact’ with the twist that the new one year deal had now definitely been offered.
It led to the inevitable split of opinions on social media as fans debated whether or not this would be a sensible decision by the club. Must admit I half liked the idea of convincing Peter Crouch to come back out of retirement, but given the prominence of Kane at the club, unless we find a striker capable of playing an alternative role in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s system (if it doesn’t change), Llorente continues to make some sense.
He offers absolutely nothing! Seems this is a desperate and cheap option very typical of levy and enic and a move that seems to signal we aren’t buying any forward players so Kane will get flogged again this season and no doubt get hurt once more! #THFC

I would rather Spurs sign @petercrouch than give Llorente another year. At least Crouchy knows where the goal is!

We won’t get a striker while Kane is at the club . The whole world knows he won’t get dropped even when half fit so good getting Llorente back in as he does a job and don’t complain.

Ajax defenders who are among the highest rated young CBs in Europe. Llorente is what he is, and has his uses imo. Free transfer, plan c option. Probably reasonable wages. I'd do it.

If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have beaten Ajax in the semis. It’s not easy only being used as a sub but you won’t find a better back up striker of his class who will sit on the bench and try and make a difference your not gonna get that ..
