No Retrospective FA Action For Spurs Player Following Newcastle Incident

|

Tottenham Hotspur’s Moussa Sissoko will not face retrospective action from the Football Association following the alleged stamp on Newcastle United winger Kenedy at the weekend.

Opening up our 2018/19 Premier League campaign after failing to make a single signing during the permanent transfer window over the summer, Spurs took a 2-1 victory on the day at St James’ Park with Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli finding the net in the opening 45 minutes of the tie.

One of the main talking points following the match was Sissoko’s tangle with Kenedy just before the halftime break in the game, with television cameras appearing to show him standing on the back of the player’s leg.

Sissoko wasn’t punished at the time by match day referee Mike Atkinson who appeared to have full view of the incident, and with the referee confirming post game to the FA that he didn’t warrant the decision as worthy of punishment, the FA Panel cannot make a decision of their own as he didn’t miss it.

Therefore, the Frenchman faces no further action according to Sky Sports.

Whilst statistics say he was actually one of our poorer performers on the day, plenty will be pleased with this news as a number of fans felt he’d put in a solid performance following the game, even if it was steady and unspectacular.
