No justice for the Cup

Reading who have this week shown nothing but contempt for the FA Cup earned a late draw with Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.

Both manager and players for the Berkshire side made it perfectly clear that they didn’t give two hoots, for the oldest and most prestigious Cup competition in the World and Coppell made eight changes from the side that recently lost 6-4 to us.

But when our own players do their best to help out the opposition, they had no need to play their best side.

Robbie Keane continued with his form in front of goal, it seems that he has now added missing absolute sitters to penalties, as he dragged a golden chance wide on five minutes.

Next up to the school of gaffs was Paul Robinson. I’ve always done my best to defend Robbo’s mistakes in the past but this one beggared belief.

A nothing cross from Hunt, caught by Robinson but then walked across his own line! If there was any doubt in the England number one’s mind he should have just tipped it over the bar.

His blushes should have been spared by want away striker Berbatov who beat the offside trap to lash home past reserve goalkeeper Adam Federici.

10 minutes after the break and Robbie Keane earned Spurs a penalty. Thankfully Keano passed on responsibility and the spot kick was tucked away by Berba.

Robbie Keane and Berbatov both had chances to kill off the game. Keano’s strike was chalked off due to a Chimbonda push, while Berbatov stood on the ball when it was easier to score.

Those mistakes proved costly when Hunt claimed his second of the game to pull the sides level.

It certainly wasn’t deserved, either on the pitch or off it and frustrations shone through when Huddlestone was sent off for a head butt just four minutes after coming on as a sub.

We’ll now have to go through the motions again on Tuesday week.

Perhaps Reading will field their under eight’s side?
