With Sunday afternoon’s first test event at the new White Hart Lane Stadium, the game was always going to be only one of the topics of conversation amongst Tottenham Hotspur fans.
The views, the buzz of being back on home soil and the architectural overkill in the concourses as the club take the experience of being a football fan to a level not seen in the United Kingdom previously (in my humble at least) – let alone the fact it meant one step closer to the end of Wembley Stadium.
With a clear futuristic element at play here, those in attendance for the game were also warned at the end of the week that the decision had been taken to make it the first ‘cashless stadium’ in the country, citing increased spend, additional payment options and improved hygiene.
Undoubtedly, with a big move to a cashless society already underway in another 10/20 years, the idea of cash may be a quaint piece of nostalgia and being cashless will be commonplace.
No cash will be accepted for any purchase made within the new stadium and its surrounding campus, including the Tottenham Experience.#SpursNewStadium ⚪️ #COYS pic.twitter.com/9k5OVczSbv

Reaction was mixed though, some rely on cash still and people wondered how they’d be inconvenienced with such a change, others took a more light-hearted approach and made comparisons to our spending in the campaign of 2018/19.
It’ll certainly take a bit of getting used to, but this is the direction life is going in so fans will ultimately adjust.

It seems a bit daft to expect people to pay for a matchday programme with a credit card.

Be interesting to see how fans thought it operated on the day.
