After a quiet January transfer window deadline day for Tottenham Hotspur, thoughts turned to Saturday’s early kickoff against Newcastle United.
Welcoming Rafa Benitez’s side to Wembley Stadium for the game, manager Mauricio Pochettino saw his side effectively dominate the tie with a massive 72% possession and we also mustered 21 efforts at goal.
We did only manage to get four of those efforts on target, but thankfully Son Heung-Min made a telling contribution in the 83rd minute to return another narrow victory and all three points.
It was far from a classic though but fans are getting used to those this season aren’t they.
The game did see us set a Premier League record as we moved to 29 matches in a row without a draw, beating the record formerly held by Bolton Wanderers (28 back in 2011).
The win also put us into second place for a period with other fixtures still to finish.
