News: Tottenham international star rips into manager’s game plan

|

Tottenham Hotspur were humiliated at home by Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The Bundesliga champions slammed in seven goals on an embarrassing evening for all connected with Spurs.

Since then, Mauricio Pochettino has come under some intense scrutiny from elements of the media, and Moussa Sissoko’s comments will hardly help this.

The Spurs midfielder, speaking to RMC Sport, has claimed that Tottenham tire easily when they play in a diamond formation.

Tottenham started with a 4-2-3-1, and in the first half, the game was even. Heung-min Son gave Tottenham the lead, but they found themselves 2-1 down at the break.

Pochettino decided to change the shape and move Son up front with Harry Kane, but the move backfired, and Spurs’ midfield was cut to ribbons by a fluid and clinical Bayern Munich.

The diamond formation is one Pochettino has used for about a year now, and after Tuesday night, it may be time to ditch the diamond and revert to a 4-2-3-1.

Sissoko’s comments would suggest that at least some of the players prefer playing with two holding midfielders rather than a narrow diamond.

There will certainly have to be some change on Saturday as Tottenham head to the AMEX to try and seal their first away win since January.

Perhaps a move back to 4-2-3-1 will bring that much-needed win.
