News: Tottenham coach provides update on the future of midfielder

|

Mauricio Pochettino has refused to answer speculation regarding the future of Victor Wanyama – after the Kenyan international was brought in from the cold to feature in Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.

The former Celtic man was substituted on for Moussa Sissoko in the 67th minute and proceeded to give the ball away for Leicester’s winner.

He also did not close James Maddison down quick enough and the 22-year-old rifled the ball into the bottom corner from 25-yards out.

After the game when asked about a change in situation for Wanyama Pochettino claimed that the press did not understand what he was talking about and that he was not discussing just Wanyama but his players in general.

Certainly, it seemed an odd decision by Poch to bring Wanyama on for his first appearance of the season when his side were trying to hold on for at least a point.

The 28-year-old was so off the pace and looked like a shadow of his former self.

Tottenham tried to move the Kenyan on this summer, but a deal with Club Brugge could not be agreed, and Wanyama will remain at Spurs until at least January.

It remains to be seen if Pochettino decides to use him anymore or if that was his last game for the Lillywhites.
