News: Tottenham blow another two-goal lead

|

The Champions League returned this week and Tottenham did not get off to the best of starts in Greece.

After taking a two-goal lead Spurs somehow contrived to throw it away, for the second time in three weeks, and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Olympiakos.

Spurs didn’t play well, to be honest, and bar Harry Winks none of Tottenham’s other players showed anything like what they are capable of but still having put themselves in such a commanding position Tottenham should have held on.

Instead, they allowed themselves to concede a goal right on the brink of half time and then Jan Vertonghen gave away a penalty – as Spurs collapsed in the intense atmosphere created by a raucous home crowd.

The penalty came from Christian Eriksen giving the ball away on the edge of his own box.

It was a moment that summed up the Dane’s night who looked well off the pace throughout the game.

I have previously mentioned that Spurs should focus on the Champions League and not the Premier League and I still believe that they can win UEFA’s premier competition, but they will have to perform a lot better than this in their next game against Bayern Munich.

Spurs have not faced the Bundesliga giants in the Champions League – so the match should be a fascinating tie.

Tottenham need to learn from last night’s result and be prepared to welcome Bayern to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on what should be a great night in N17.
