Ndombele ability is frightening – Gareth Bale

|

During a Sky Sports question and answer with fans, Spurs winger and Wales hero Gareth Bale was asked what player was the biggest surprise when he arrived in North London. His answer – pretty obvious if you’re a Tottenham fan, but one that has shocked rival fans and neutrals across the country on social media.

“I have to say Ndombele,” said Bale. “Seeing what he does in training and on the pitch, I was very surprised.

“I hadn’t seen too much of him when I was watching Spurs games the season before. I think obviously he had an adaption period coming over to England because it’s quite a big jump.

“The amount of ability he has is actually frightening. The stuff he does with the ball reminds me of Ronaldinho, especially in training.”

Ndombele is one of those players that is just a privilege to watch – when he is on form. His mind-blowing trickery, incredible agility and superb vision has finally been utilised by the club since his record £54 million transfer from French club Lyon – who look a different side without him.

Somehow, France manager Didier Deschamps decided to take Moussa Sissoko instead of Ndombele, which absolutely bewildered us Spurs fans a few weeks back when the squad was announced – particularly with the club looking to move on the former Newcastle midfielder.

However, the 24-year-old isn’t rated by everyone at Spurs, and former player Graham Roberts has suggested he isn’t built for football in England, telling Football FanCast: “I just don’t think the Premier League is made for him. He’s not quick enough, not powerful enough to get through the games.

“He’s ok for 20-25 minutes, but you put him in it for 90 minutes, he can’t handle it. I would sell him and get somebody who can play that role. Nobody knows his best position.”

We believe that Ndombele still is a player that the club should build around, instead of sell on. Signing someone like Manuel Locatelli to play next to him could be key to unlocking the best from the Frenchman.

In 28 starts for the club in the Premier League, he scored three times and assisted twice more from central midfield, as well as scoring important goals in the Europa League and the FA Cup.
