Danny Murphy is hoping to get the nod to start against his former team Liverpool today.

He told the official site: ‘I’ve only been back once (to Anfield) with the way the fixtures have worked out over the last couple of seasons and it wasn’t a happy occasion, as it turned out. Charlton got beaten quite comfortably by 2-0.’

‘Anfield holds fantastic memories for me and it is somewhere where I’ve had many good times. I always enjoy going back, it is an excellent place to play, the pitch is always wonderful and they have good fans. You also play against the best players and that is always a challenge when you play the top teams. It was unusual when I did go back before, but now more time has lapsed I will be more relaxed as I remember feeling quite uptight about it. I am really looking forward to this one.’

He also says he would happily forgo a decent reception from the Liverpool faithful for a goal!

Adding ‘It will be a tough challenge for us because we know their home record has been very good over the last two seasons under Rafa Benitez. There would be no better place for us to go and get a result as it would build confidence massively….I am looking forward to it, it will be a good afternoon and the best way to ensure that is to get the right result.’
