Former Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy was quick to praise Lucas Moura after the Brazilian scored his first goal for Tottenham.

The speedster was making his full debut when he came up with a great finish to level the score at 1-1 against Rochdale. Speaking on BBC Sport`s live coverage of the game, the pundit waxed lyrical about our new £25m signing`s display:

‘Ryan Delaney thought he had him but Lucas Moura just put himself into fifth gear and he was gone. He’s electric isn’t he? He can just go up the gears very, very quickly with that good close control.’

I was also very impressed with Lucas`s performance in general. Considering it was effectively his first taste of English football, following a cameo appearance against Juve last week, I thought he handled the situation very well.

Pace is a vital asset in the Premier League, and as Murphy mentions, he can go past people in a blink of an eye. Going by his goal yesterday (as well as his record at PSG). he does have an end-product too.

What I liked particularly about the equalising goal was that he found space in Rochdale`s backline and exploited it. Once he got through the gap and received the pass, he was then composed enough to lift it over the keeper. It was a display that bodes very well for the future.

Of course, we will have to see where he fits into Poch`s first team plans. With Erik Lamela also able to play from the right-hand side, Lucas is going to have a job on his hands to be a regular starter, but on first impressions, he looks more than capable of forcing his way into our first eleven.

Thoughts Vital Spurs folks?
