Mourinho has been handed the license to experiment with Spurs against European giants – Opinion

After Tottenham’s 4-2 win against Olympiakos last month, the result against the Greek side confirmed the north London side’s passage to the next round of the Champions League.

But, with Bayern Munich also winning on the night, it meant that Spurs will finish Group B in second no matter what happens tonight at the Allianz Arena against the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Indeed, this means that Tottenham’s biggest and most difficult match in their Champions League group stage this season is a complete dead rubber, but it does hand Jose Mourinho a golden opportunity to have a free pass with Spurs and experimenting with the squad.

Draw - That Would Prove Improvement

In Mourinho’s spells with both Chelsea and Manchester United, the majority of the time supporters and the media knew what to expect from the former Porto manager in terms of strongest XI’s, but at Tottenham, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

As match reports from BBC Sport show, Mourinho is yet to settle for the same starting XI for Tottenham in the five games the Portuguese manager has currently taken charge of for the north London side, a sign that the 56-year-old still doesn’t know what his best Spurs side is.

Yet tonight can give Mourinho the perfect opportunity to finally find that perfect mix in a game against one of Europe’s biggest sides that Tottenham fans will be hoping the former Man United manager goes all out for, which will mean selecting that perfect XI.

Tottenham have been revitalised under Mourinho since his arrival at the club last month, yet the Portuguese manager still needs to identify which players fit into the team’s best XI, and against Bayern, the Spurs boss will be given the freedom to experiment and should act upon it.
