Midfielder links re-emerge

|

Since Fabio Paratici has joined Spurs, links to Serie A players – particularly those affiliated with Paratici’s former club Juventus – have been nothing short of incessant. This is understandable, given Paratici’s proclivity for the Italian market.

Paratici’s appetite for Serie A players has already seen us recruit Pierluigi Gollini, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, Ivan Perisic, and Destiny Udogie from Serie A sides already, and it looks like Paratici is not done shopping in his homeland at all.

Indeed, Weston McKennie has been one Serie A name that has been consistently doing the rounds for a while now. Last month, my colleague Mitch Tapner reported our interest in what David Bowie would call the young American, highlighting that Juventus were willing to sell the Texan in order to fund more flashy endeavours in the upcoming transfer market.

Sports Mole have reinforced Mitch’s observations by stating that Spurs have indeed stepped up their interest in McKennie’s services, and that the flashy endeavour Juventus would fund from his sale would be the signing of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio.

The report goes on to state that it would take a relatively modest overall package of £25.9 million to prize the American from Juventus. However, with the Italians’ boardroom crisis not expected to be resolved until January, it remains to be seen how this turmoil would impact the Old Lady’s transfer business, so it would be too early to draw any conclusions from these reports, in spite of McKennie’s modest touted fee and the admiration Paratici harbours for the American.

It is worth pointing out that McKennie is not the only midfielder Spurs are ostensibly keeping an eye on. Read about our interest in one Moroccan here; another Moroccan here; and a Juventus teammate of McKennie’s here.

I hope McKennie gets rid of the red, white, and blue stripes in his hair if he moves to London. For an American, he seems able to play this game
