Meet the exciting young prospect who could replace Tottenham’s Danny Rose – opinion

|

Danny Rose’s comments suggesting he may be ‘moved on’ from Tottenham this summer could open the door for Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon, according to Football.London.

Rose, 28, has spent 12 years at Spurs since joining them from Leeds back in 2007.

And, despite making more appearances last season than any other in his career, he has hinted his age may mean the club decide to sell him.

Danny Rose has had a long-running battle with Welshman Ben Davies over the left-back position for Spurs.

And according to The Sun, Rose’s replacement could be someone who has been linked with Spurs for several transfer windows now, Englishman Ryan Sessegnon.

Sessegnon, 19, impressed in his second season with Fulham, where he played as a left-back/left winger, scoring 16 goals in 52 appearances for the Championship side, according to Who Scored.

But he struggled to adjust to the Premier League and was often used as an impact substitute towards the end of the season as Fulham were relegated back down to the Championship.

Nevertheless, he remains a perfect fit for Spurs given the history the club has for bringing through young English talent.

In addition, Christian Eriksen’s potential exit from the club – a player who was used on the left – could mean Tottenham move swiftly to secure Sessegnon because of his ability to play in either defence or midfield.

And part of the draw for Sessegnon wanting to join Spurs is that previously mentioned proven track record that Pochettino has to bring through young players – though it is reported the teenager will set them back £45 million.

Sessegnon was heavily linked with a move to the north London club last season but after Fulham won the Play-Offs he decided to stay with the newly promoted side.

Football London are reporting that Spurs are waiting for Sessegnon to return to England following his duties with the national side at the European U21 Championships.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who notoriously drives a hard bargain, is in a strong negotiating position given the money Fulham spent last season.

The west London club’s relegation will more than likely mean they have to free up some funds by reducing their wage bill for their upcoming Championship campaign.

Tottenham could therefore receive a better deal for Sessegnon, but there is no doubt a young English talent often costs over and above what his record suggests he should be worth.

Regardless, Spurs fans will be happy to see any player move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a barren spell of transfer activity, and Sessegnon is the perfect start.
