“Maybe 99% Of My Colleagues Have A Different Mindset” – A Straight But Teasing Answer From Pochettino

|

With another dull international break now with us in the month of March, Tottenham Hotspur news looks to be thin on the ground but yesterday evening manager Mauricio Pochettino helped everyone by once again addressing the speculation about his future at the club.

It’s another Spurs topic that obviously won’t go away and we have a few of those in the campaign of 2018/19.

In true fashion, Pochettino was straight laced in his answers about his future and his happiness at the club, but there were again the words that followed that will allow some people to read into his comments and come up with their own twist and potentially suit a headline.

“I am very happy at Tottenham. I have four more years on my contract. Maybe 99 per cent of my colleagues have a different mindset. I enjoy it day by day and whatever happens tomorrow will be a consequence of today. But I don’t look at things too far ahead or think very long term. When I signed my contract I did it because I was happy.”

Seems fair enough and not only honest, but also straight enough to reassure those fans who believe he’s not going to be off in the summer, who will relax even more. But if you twist it the right way, it is open to interpretation. ‘Consequence of today’ and ‘when I signed…I was happy’.

I imagine those will be the headlines in some sections of the press and the internet.

He also again repeated he felt we were overachieving this season.

“Nobody thought that Tottenham would be in the fight to win titles this year, following the investment made by other clubs to enhance the quality of their teams. Clubs that are in need of winning titles. Tottenham are different. But despite everything we are still here in the fight, because of our own merit. We hope to finish well this year.”

I imagine those who believe he’s frustrated at the lack of spending on players will also read that as a message to Daniel Levy to open the wallet in the summer. For the other side of the coin, he again sounds happy and whilst he’ll have had his recent frustrations, it sounds like he’s pleased with the improvements overall given the project and he’s seeking further improvements.

Only the future will tell.
