Mauricio Pochettino should sign 21-year-old to solve Tottenham’s defensive crisis – opinion

|

With Kieran Trippier on the end of criticism from supporters due to his poor run of form for Tottenham, could Mauricio Pochettino consider a replacement in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in January or next summer?

Kyle Walker-Peters has been given a contract extension, been brought back into the first-team and could soon fight Trippier for a starting place, but Wan-Bissaka has lit up the Premier League with Crystal Palace and could be a brilliant acquisition.

The 21-year-old has risen from the youth ranks to the Palace first-team this season, making 19 Premier League appearances. He’s made 69 tackles and 49 interceptions, averaging a defensive action every 14 minutes. Wan-Bissaka is adept in the final third, boasting 35 successful dribbles and has whipped in 34 crosses for his troubles.

He’s still raw given it’s his first full season in the Premier League, but Tottenham should consider bringing Wan-Bissaka to the club as a potential replacement for one of Trippier or Serge Aurier. The Palace defender is valued by CIES at £17m so he wouldn’t break the bank.

The only thing likely to stop Spurs signing the England u21 international is their need to strengthen their central midfield.
